Chongqing, one of China’s “Four Great Ancient Capitals,” boasts a history spanning over 3,000 years. From its origins as a strategic military post, it has grown into a vital economic hub and a key player in China’s inland development.
Situated at the meeting point of the Yangtze and Jialing rivers, Chongqing’s history stretches back to the ancient Ba Kingdom and continued through numerous Chinese dynasties. During the Ming and Qing periods, it thrived as an important river port and regional administrative center. The city’s name, meaning “Double-Blessed,” was given in 1189 during the Southern Song Dynasty, highlighting its fortunate location.
Since becoming a direct-controlled municipality in 1997 (joining Beijing, Shanghai, and Tianjin), Chongqing has undergone rapid transformation into a major economic powerhouse. Despite this growth, it remains deeply connected to its cultural roots, with ancient temples, traditional stilt houses, and historic districts. This was our first time in China, and my partner and I wanted to see as much as we could in two weeks, Panda Tourism put together the perfect itinerary. Beijing was such an amazing capital to start, and Shanghai, what a city! The mix of old and new is just fascinating, and we loved strolling through the French Concession and checking out all the little cafes and shops. It feels like Paris here. Also just amazed with the coffee culture. There are many incredibly good cafes with high quality beans. Going with Panda Tourism was great, they really cared about every little detail. They checked in with us every day to make sure everything was going smoothly, and Kris was always there to answer questions . Overall, China is very different than what you would expect, but in a good way. This trip was beyond expectations.

This trip to China with Panda Tourism was absolutely perfect!!! I had been planning this for a while, we had some two dozen emails back and forth with Jane on the bookings team confirming our itinerary before we came. She's really great. Every single request I asked for was taken note of, all I had to do was book the international flights.
The trip itself was just amazing. We really loved seeing the giant pandas up close. And the boat ride along the Li River really looked like a Painted Veil's movie scene! The guides were all knowledgeable and shared all these cool little facts. What made this trip even better was how warm and genuine everyone was. Our guide Nina in Guilin and Yangshuo felt like a friend by the end of the trip. She went above and beyond. If you’re thinking of traveling to China, Panda Tourism is the way to go.

My friends and I just came back from this luxury trip and we must say it was surprising! Hong Kong was just amazing, I loved the energy of the city. Joanne was fantastic and she made sure we saw all the highlights while still having time to explore the street stalls on our own. For the Yangtze River Cruise, the scenery along the river was beyond beautiful. We sailed through the Three Gorges and stopped at some fascinating spots along the way. The whole experience was very relaxing, great itinerary and service throughout. I can't recommend them enough.
